Childrens Ministry guidelines: Considering Foster Care

Guidelines for considering Out-of-Home Care in your children’s and youth ministry programs.

When designing and offering church programs for children and young people, there are some key considerations that will show support for Foster Carers and the children and young people in their care. This will not only be helping them to meet their obligations, it communicates that you see and value them and the role they play and that you want to ensure you’re creating inclusive environments for children and young people with an experience of Out-of-Home Care.

We’ve prepared some children’s ministry guidelines to help you, which include considerations in the following areas:

  • Consent
  • Travel
  • Media and photographs
  • Privacy and confidentiality
  • Birth Parents and Reunification
  • Religious Worship and Instruction
  • Medical attentions and incidents

Download the guidelines below.

We’ve also created some Communication Considerations to help churches communicate thoughtfully about Out-of-Home Care.

The Homeward Project wants to support you to shape and sustain a ministry of Out-of-Home Care in your church and community. Find out more here.
